BEIRUT: Security forces were heavily deployed outside the French Embassy in Beirut Thursday ahead of a demonstration planned by supporters of Leftist militant Georges Abdallah to protest his continued incarceration in France.

The rally is due to take place at 5:30 p.m.

Abdallah was scheduled to be released and sent back to Lebanon last January after spending 29 years in prison for killing an Israeli diplomat and an American military attache. However, the French Interior Ministry has denied the deportation order, the second time it has done so.

Activists has continuously called for his release.
