BEIRUT: A Lebanese man and his Syrian wife burned to death when their tent was allegedly set on fire overnight in the east Bekaa Valley village of Torbol, security forces told The Daily Star.
The charred remains of Nayef Bou Eid, 56, and his 45-year-old second wife Khadija were found Monday in the burned-out tent with a half-filled canister of gasoline nearby, indicating the fire was intentional.
The apparent attack comes just days after Bou Eid’s daughter, one of four children from his first wife, was abducted, allegedly by a criminal ring of Lebanese and Syrians.
Authorities are searching for the suspects, who are thought to be behind the attack on Bou Eid and his wife, both of whom worked for a local landowner named Ali Youssef Sahili.
