BEIRUT: A nationwide strike of government employees and teachers will spread to Electricite du Liban after workers said they would stop work across Lebanon Wednesday.

A statement issued by the EDL employees’ union urged company workers in various centers across Lebanon to observe Wednesday’s strike called by the Union Coordination Committee.

The statement said workers at production plants and those at switching stations were exempted from the strike.

The UCC has called for a “day of rage” Wednesday in protest of the $700 million cut to the proposed new salary scale that a parliamentary committee has recommended.
