Kahwagi in Riyadh to sign off on France arms deal

BEIRUT: Lebanese Army General Jean Kahwagi traveled to Riyadh Saturday to finalize a Saudi grant of $3 billion in military equipment from France, President Michel Sleiman said at a public ceremony over the weekend.

This is Kahwagi’s second visit to Saudi Arabia this year following up on the grant, which will help the Army buy much-needed weapons on the condition that they are purchased exclusively from France. Sleiman has said that “political cover” from the International Support Group for Lebanon would allow the Army to acquire heavy arms.
