BEIRUT: Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun is seeking to promote his presidential ambitions after he failed to rally enough votes, Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said Monday.

“If Aoun had secured 65 votes, he wouldn’t have looked for compromises,” Zahra told LBCI television channel.

He stressed that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea was the Future Movement-led March 14 coalition’s only presidential candidate.

Zahra said March 14’s decision to nominate Geagea was evidence that talk of a deal between Aoun and Future Movement head Saad Hariri was not true.
