BEIRUT: Lebanese Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi said Friday that the military would remain cohesive amid the critical circumstances surrounding the presidential election crisis.
“Despite all the tragic events that we are experiencing, we will stay coherent, working ... so that the Army would live up to the aspirations and expectations placed upon it,” Kahwagi said in a statement ahead of Liberation Day, which is celebrated on May 25.
“The next phase is critical. Be vigilant as always,” he told troops in the Army's Order of The Day.
Kahwagi also ordered the military to “be fully aware and disciplined in order to maintain [Lebanon’s] unity and stability.”
“We will continue to work for a better future,” he promised.
