U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly expressed the international community's deep concern over the involvement of Lebanese fighters in the Syrian conflict and underscored the need to neutralize Lebanon through the implementation of the Baabda Declaration.Speaking to reporters after briefing the U.N. Security Council on the implementation of the resolution 1701 Wednesday, Plumbly said he addressed in his report the violations committed along Lebanon's porous eastern border with Syria, including cross-border shelling, arms smuggling and violence. On the presidential vacuum, Plumbly said the international community agrees that the election of a new head of state is important for Lebanon's stability.
