TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Artillery shelling and gunfire from Syria flared up Friday along the northern border with Lebanon, wounding one man, security sources said.
They said the man was wounded by bullet as he drove along the Abboudieh-Minjiz road, considered unsafe for travelers, causing him to drive run off the road.
The sources told The Daily Star that security forces had long cautioned drivers not to use this road, which runs along the border with Syria, because of stray munitions and border clashes.
Lebanese soldiers managed to rescue the wounded man, the sources added.
