The Progressive Socialist Party and Hezbollah are coordinating their efforts in preparation for a possible Islamist assault on the areas of West Bekaa and the neighboring areas of Hasbaya, Rashaya and Arqoub in southeast Lebanon, sources told The Daily Star.PSP leader Walid Jumblatt recently received a tip from French intelligence that the Nusra Front was actively and successfully recruiting from the area. Their ranks have also swollen from Syrian fighters reportedly smuggled through Ain Ata and Deir al-Ashayer and Rawda in the western Bekaa Valley. While the Nusra Front focuses its efforts on sowing strife in the Western Bekaa using its sleeper cells, Hezbollah sheikhs are meeting with Druze sheikhs from the Chouf, and the party is also sending arms to the PSP through Kefraya in the central Bekaa Valley to the Chouf villages of Mukhtara and Amatour for distribution on the Druze community in West Bekaa and Rashaya and Hasbaya.
