The Army Command does not fear large-scale defections into the ranks of jihadists, according to a high-profile Army source. The source explained that the military establishment, whose members are from Lebanon's various sects, was treating all religious groups in the country equally. The source explained that only soldiers Atef Mohammad Saadeddine, who announced that he had entered the ranks of the Nusra Front in July, and Abdallah Shehadeh, who joined the same group this month, have actually fled Army ranks. The source downplayed accusations by the Nusra Front, ISIS and other Islamist groups that the Army was under Hezbollah's control. The military official dismissed claims that the Army was cracking down on Lebanese who were aiding Syrian rebels, while refraining from taking action against Hezbollah militants crossing the border to fight alongside the Syrian regime.
