Kassab was kidnapped with his Sky News colleagues Ishak Moctar, a Mauritanian, and a Syrian driver whose family asked that his name not be printed, while working near Aleppo on assignment last October.Kassab's family, clearly weary from the past year – just a month before Kassab was taken hostage, one of his brothers died of cancer – gathered for a news conference at the Foreign Ministry Tuesday following a meeting with Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil. The father spoke first, thanking the emir of Qatar, Lebanon's political class and Lebanese journalists for helping to address Kassab's situation. Georges Kassab spoke next, telling reporters that the family had had no contact with his brother or his kidnappers. A year after the abduction, he said, the family was still in the dark regarding the kidnappers' demands or intentions. At the moment, the only information the family has been able to scrape together is bits gathered from other people held hostage in Syria. Regardless, the Kassab family has yet to block any highways. That night, despite repeated phone calls and WhatsApp messages, neither Hamdan nor Kassab's mother could reach him.
