Rai: Depriving Lebanon of a president a crime

BEIRUT: Depriving the state of its head is a crime Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai said Thursday, calling on Lebanese lawmakers to elect a new president.

“Depriving us from a president is a stab in the core of our dignity and [a betrayal to] the values of Lebanon,” Rai said during a mass celebrating the 11th anniversary of the inauguration of the Qannoubine Patriarch's Park.

Rai also touched on the Lebanese public administration’s malfunctions, stressing the need for wide reform.

“We suffer from a lot of corruption in the administration, including bribery, embezzlement and waste of public resources,” he said.
