BEIRUT: Saudi Arabian Ambassador Ali Awad Asiri Friday invited Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil to a conference on terrorism.

“I had requested the meeting in order to extend him an invitation to attend a conference on terrorism and ISIS that will be held in Riyadh next week,” Asiri told reporters at the Foreign Ministry.

The state-run National News Agency said Asiri would not comment on reports that the U.S. and Israel were exerting pressure to halt the $3 billion Saudi grant for the Lebanese Army.

However, sources in the U.S Embassy in Beirut dismissed reports of Israeli-American pressures as baseless.
