Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Kataeb Party leader Amine Gemayel announced that they are preparing an initiative of simple steps to safeguard political and military institutions."There is a necessity to protect the institutions that are suffering from vacuum," Gemayel said.In response to a question on his view toward former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's statement that he would not participate in parliamentary elections before electing a president, Jumblatt ruled out boycotting the polls, while seemingly agreeing on the need for an extension of Parliament's term. Before the May 2013 extension, all major political leaders had strongly dismissed extension, but 98 MPs, all those who attended the 15-minute session, voted for the term renewal.
