Preventing the implementation of an election law that reflects the true Christian presence and that provides real power sharing is tantamount to betrayal, Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said Sunday.Kanaan said that his party had not changed its support for the Orthodox Gathering's proposal, which would restrict voters in parliamentary elections to only choosing MPs from their own sect.Under the proposal, Christian MPs in parliament would be elected exclusively by their Christian constituencies and not by the Lebanese population as a whole.Kanaan implied that previous presidents elected under the current election law were not chosen by the Christian people, saying that the current system is not conducive to electing a representative president.
