Italy and Lebanon are jointly committed to fighting terrorism and extremism, Italian Defense Minister Senator Roberta Pinotti said Tuesday following talks with senior Lebanese officials.Wrapping up a two-day official visit to Lebanon, Pinotti said Italy strongly supported the election of a Lebanese president and saw the need for the rival parties to resolve their internal political differences.Pinotti said she was very pleased with the "excellent work" of the Lebanese Army and its cooperation with Italian troops serving the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, which is headed by Italian commander Maj.According to a statement released by Moqbel's media office, the two ministers discussed military cooperation between the two countries, in addition to Italy's contribution to UNIFIL peacekeeping forces along Lebanon's border with Israel.Describing south Lebanon as "a land of peace," Pinotti said UNIFIL's relationship with the local population is "excellent".
