Thousands of protesters gathered in downtown Beirut Saturday to call on Environment Minister Mohammad Machnouk to resign over his inability to find a sustainable solution to Lebanon's garbage crisis.Saturday's demonstration is the latest in a series of protests that started when Beirut was flooded with garbage after trash collection was halted last month due to the closure of the Naameh dump. The campaign is also fiercely opposed to renewing Sukleen's contract, which has been managing Beirut and Mount Lebanon's garbage since 1997 .
