For some, the Arab region brings to mind images of turmoil, terrorism, destruction and death. But at a new summit in Abu Dhabi, it is the region's diversity and human capital which are taking center stage and being celebrated. The Arab region isn't having its best days, but despite the many challenges it faces, it continues to produce many successful people and ideas, said Raghida Dergham, founder and executive chairman of the Beirut Institute. In addition to the realignment of regional and global powers, it will focus on items that are shaping the future of the Arab region, including innovation, technology and the role of women. The co-chairs of the summit include Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal, chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmad al-Khalifa, Emirati Ambassador to Washington Yousef al-Otaiba, Aramex founder and Vice Chairman Fadi Ghandour, and ACWA Power President and CEO Paddy Padmanathan.Dergham was adamant that the Arab region has what it takes to become even more successful in the future, but said this cannot be achieved by blaming other countries for its current position.
