Vibrantly patterned kaftans and long-flowing tunics worn by cultures around the world characterize Lebanese fashion designer Amal Azhari's 2016 collection. The collection was dubbed Dunya Maymouna, which embodies a number of different meanings for the designer. It is also the name of Azhari's niece, and the designer emphasized that this was the most important reason behind its selection. The pieces blend old and new by incorporating modern cuts into the traditional garments, and pairing the kaftans with contemporary pants, skirts and lingerie.Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the new collection is the choice of fabrics. Dunya Maymouna was inspired by Azhari's travels in India, so she has accompanied the silk, cotton and lace in her designs with a number of Indian fabrics, including "tabi," "habutai," "cotta," "curcuma," and "cypress".
