A list headed by the current president of the Union of Journalists Elias Aoun swept the body's board-member elections Wednesday, as he promised that the union's "doors will be opened for everybody".Taking part in the elections were 312 members of the union, out of the 561 who were eligible to vote.On the 12-member winning list, Aoun received 272 votes while Wassef Awwada took 258, Nafez Kawas garnered 253, Ali Youssef received 244 votes, Youssef Diab collected 241, George al-Kosseifi received 258, George Bkassini took 229, May Chehab took 241, Said Nassereddine earned 254, Scarlet Haddad received 256, George Chahine took 264 and May Abboud Abi Akil obtained 264 .The ballot also included 11 blank votes and six invalidated votes.A spat occurred between two members of the union during the elections at Beirut's UNESCO Palace when renowned Lebanese-American journalist Raghida Dergham tried to vote using her passport.
