Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun said Friday that his party's alliance with Hezbollah had played a key role in keeping Lebanon safe and stable throughout the years."Lebanon has passed through pitfalls and harsh vicissitudes, and the trust built between the two sides of the agreement has protected [the country] from security shakeups," Aoun told OTV Friday night. His comments came on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the party's memorandum of understanding with Hezbollah, which eventually turned into a strategic alliance and created a strong political camp with which to confront the March 14 bloc.
