Speaker Nabih Berri and Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun have reached an agreement to reactivate the role of the Parliament, Al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported Monday.According to the daily, Berri and Aoun, who are both affiliated to the March 8 coalition, agreed on a compromise to settle the dispute over the designation of offshore oil and gas blocks in return for an extraordinary legislative round in the Parliament. Berri has sought to auction off all 10 oil and gas blocks, while Aoun felt that Lebanon should only auction a few, undisputed blocks.Berri reportedly informed Energy Minister Arthur Nazarian about his desire to kick-start the offshore oil and gas auction, starting with discussing the file at the upcoming Cabinet session to facilitate the endorsement of the two decrees needed to assign the blocks to companies.
