The Army commander's mandate will be extended for two years in September if a successor is not appointed, Speaker Nabih Berri told lawmakers visiting his Ain al-Tineh residence Thursday.The speaker rejected the Free Patriotic Movement's demand for the appointment of a new Army commander before the end of Kahwagi's mandate, saying that a successor will only be appointed after the end of the military leader's term.The Free Patriotic Movement has strongly opposed extending the terms of the current security chiefs, demanding the Cabinet appoint a new ISF head and Army commander.
