Only the Army can protect the northeastern town of Arsal, said Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian Wednesday, urging Lebanese to place their faith in the military. The security situation in the predominantly Sunni border town has become the center of a heated debate since Hezbollah and the Syrian army launched an offensive in the mountainous Qalamoun region last month, just over Lebanon's eastern border.Hezbollah has been battling militants from the Nusra Front and ISIS on the outskirts of Arsal for the past two weeks, as the Army guards the town from attack and attempts at infiltration. The Free Patriotic Movement announced earlier this month that its ministers would prevent the Cabinet from discussing any other items before new commanders for Lebanon's security agencies were appointed.
