Lebanese politicians have expressed concern that U.S. Ambassador David Hale's posting to Pakistan is an indicator that Lebanon now ranks lower on America's list of priorities.A Lebanese diplomat highlighted the pivotal role of the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, saying that the U.S. plays a major role in keeping the situation in Lebanon under control and ensures an international consensus on insulating the country from regional turmoil. No authority is currently permitted to accept ambassadors' credentials, as the president of the envoy's country must send a letter directly to Lebanon's president asking for their acceptance. This has prompted officials to look for a way to temporarily accept the appointment of new ambassadors until a new president is elected.
