Thousands of people took part in the annual Beirut Marathon Sunday, as participants started trickling into Downtown Beirut to the starting point early in the morning, spreading out along a 42 km route which stretched throughout much of the city, reaching the northern suburb of Dbayeh.Kaltoum Bousayriyaa from Morocco won the overall elite women race, while Chirine Njeim was the first Lebanese to win, coming in fifth overall. Meseret Abebayehu, Bizunesh Urgessa and Belaynesh Shifera, all from Ethiopia, came second, third and fourth in the same race respectively. Abdela Godana and Hussein Mohammed, both from Ethiopia, came second and third in the same race respectively.
