Daftardar was arrested in January 2014 in the Western Bekaa town of Kamed al-Lawz for attacking a military checkpoint in the southern coastal city of Sidon one month prior.Once thought to be the next leader of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, Daftardar has been charged in connection with the two car bombings in the southern Beirut suburb of Haret Hreik on Jan. 2 and Jan. 21, 2014 .Abbas was among 23 terror suspects reccommended for the death penalty by a military judge in July 2014 .
