Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil called for a safe zone within Syria to house refugees and stressed that the return of the displaced to Syria was the only solution to the ongoing refugee crisis.Bassil emphasized the heavy burden that the influx of Syrian refugees placed on the Lebanese state and society as a whole. Economically speaking, Bassil stressed that it would be cheaper to house refugees in Syria and implement developmental schemes there, particularly in agriculture.
