Speaker Nabih Berri Tuesday urged the EU to press for a political settlement to end the 4-year-old war in Syria that has killed some 250,000 people and displaced half of the country's population.Berri, currently on an official visit to Romania, said a political solution to end the bloody conflict in Syria is the only way to halt the flow of Syrian refugees into neighboring countries and into Europe, the National News Agency reported. The number of refugees [in Europe] is less than 100,000, while there is in Lebanon alone more than 2 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees".He stressed that a political solution in Syria should be similar to the landmark nuclear deal reached between Iran with six world powers in July. Berri described his meeting with Ponta and Zgonea as "fruitful" and "successful," and called for increasing Lebanese investment in Romania.Berri also met with the chairman and members of the Romanian senate.
