British foreign policy expert Hugo Shorter was appointed as the United Kingdom's new ambassador designate to Beirut Thursday, to hold the charge d'affaires post until the election of a new Lebanese president.In a press release, the British Embassy announced that Shorter will succeed Tom Fletcher, who has been appointed to another government post outside the Foreign and Commonwealth office. This will be Shorter's first ambassadorial position. His past experience includes Britain's foreign secretary as the Head of External Affairs for the Europe Directorate.
