The talks were interrupted by Israel's July 2006 war against Lebanon.Tensions continued to build after the July war as Hezbollah and its March 8 allies called for a national unity government in which they would hold veto power.Berri began consultation sessions in Parliament on Nov. 6 in an effort to forge a compromise, but March 8 ministers withdrew from Siniora's Cabinet after talks failed, triggering an 18-month political crisis.
