Several activists went on hunger strike last week in bid to force Environment Minister Mohammad Machnouk to resign after failing to find a solution to the two-month-long trash crisis.The patriarch was welcomed in Aley by Chehayeb, lawmakers Fadi al-Haber, Henri Helou and Fouad al-Saed, former Minister Marwan Kheireddine, and other prominent figures in the area.In a long Cabinet session Wednesday ministers endorsed Chehayeb's garbage management plan that deems the reopening of the Naameh landfill for seven days to give Beirut and Mount Lebanon relief from the trash that has overwhelmed both districts. Rai also reiterated his support to Chehayeb's proposed garbage management plan.
