Saudi Ambassador Ali Awad Asiri held an ice-breaking meeting with Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil Friday, nearly two months after Riyadh blamed "hostile" Lebanese stances at Arab League and Islamic conferences for its decision to halt a massive military aid package for Lebanon.Asiri did not speak to reporters after the 45-minute meeting with Bassil and headed straight for another meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail. U.S. interim Ambassador Richard Jones said after meeting Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk that municipal elections would take place in four stages across Lebanon as scheduled in May, dismissing fears that the polls could be postponed.Jones said that he discussed with Machnouk several issues, but added that the municipal elections were the main topic.Jones said that he also discussed with Machnouk the security situation in Lebanon.
