Prime Minister Tammam Salam Monday called on Christians to focus on the power vacuum rather than getting distracted by what he described as the minor issue of the State Security agency.The Cabinet is set to resume talks on the State Security agency Tuesday, days after a tense session failed to solve the conflict between politicians related to the powers granted to Maj. Gen. George Karaa, the Greek Catholic chief of State Security, and his Shiite deputy, Brig.Greek Catholic ministers, backed by the Free Patriotic Movement and Kataeb ministers along with some independents, have complained that Karaa has been unable to fully exercise his responsibilities because of a power struggle with Tufayli. Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon, a March 14 official, later in the day held a news conference to announce that a number of ministers are coordinating their stances to take a unified position on the matter.The minister also warned of some illegal measures he said have been taken in this matter based on political disputes, without elaborating.
