A green door separates the women locked inside Baabda's Central Prison from the rest of the world.Despite the hardships, the work of Dar al-Amal, a nonprofit organization working with prostitutes and female offenders, has offered a semblance of good fortune to hundreds of prisoners in the country. The group has provided vocational training classes in order to help inmates avoid falling back into a life of crime once they are released. During a ceremony on the top floor of Baabda prison Monday, several inmates received certificates for their efforts. Nevertheless, Rana wasn't the only one who took advantage of the opportunity to praise Dar al-Amal's initiative.Another prisoner, who was also not allowed to disclose her name, emphasized that the vocational classes didn't only equip her with a set of professional skills, but has provided her with an activity to direct her focus while she served the rest of her sentence. While several prisoners brimmed with happiness at the top floor of Baabda Prison, the despair of most remained hidden behind an iron green door on the staircase below.
