Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea Wednesday marked the anniversary of the mountain reconciliation, saying all parties must do everything in their power to avoid the reoccurrence of violence. In 1983, PSP and LF militias in the Chouf fought what would later become known as the War of the Mountain. The road to reconciliation between local Christians and Druze culminated in 2001 with a historic visit to the mountain region by former Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Nasrallah Butros Sfeir. Geagea saluted Jumblatt, explaining that sometimes in politics the two leaders agreed and at other times they disagreed.
