Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt has accused Syrian authorities of attempting to assassinate him.When the conflict in Syria erupted in 2011, Jumblatt was quick to voice his unequivocal support for the opposition. Though Syria's Druze largely stayed out of the conflict, Jumblatt had sometimes incited his coreligionists to join the uprising.Jumblatt warned that the Syrian forces' success in Aleppo, Syria's largest city and former commercial heart, could result in stronger Syrian influence in Lebanon.Lebanese parties are divided between adopting a proportional vote law or a hybrid electoral law that includes aspects of the proportional and current winner-take-all systems.
