Beirut and Tripoli's legal bar associations are striking Monday after four lawyers were brutally attacked by armed men in an upmarket Beirut neighborhood while working, drawing a rebuke from officials and lawyers.Zaher Azouri, who is a member of the Beirut Bar Association's Council, and lawyers Zainab al-Hajj, Raed Hamdan and Zainab Dahboul were attacked Friday in Ramlet al-Baida. Media reports added that the lawyers represent four of the building's residents who had filed a complaint with the relevant judiciary over disputes concerning the building's committee. The lawyers, according to the Association's statement, were violently beaten. It added that any attack on a lawyer is considered, per the Lebanese penal code, the same as an assault on a judge, explaining that punishment should be given to both the perpetrators of the attack as well as the organizers.
