Former Information Minister Michel Samaha presented the court with a new motive for his plot to carry out terror attacks in Lebanon, saying the move was aimed at preventing a new civil war from igniting in the country. After a 30-minute break, Samaha appeared nervous when answering the court's questions and referred to minutes of previous sessions before responding.Responding to questions from the court, Samaha said that during their conversations, Kfoury raised the issue of targeting iftar banquets and officials without specifying the location of the targets. Samaha described Kfoury as a "collaborator and an agent".Asked about previous remarks in which he said that he agreed with Kfoury on the need to target illegitimate border crossings, Samaha reiterated that Kfoury had raised his fears that a civil war could reignite as a result of Syrian opposition fighters moving across the border.
