General Security said Friday that it will not be able to compensate those financially affected by the new regulations that will make passports renewed by hand obsolete.A passport valid for one year costs $40, while a five-year travel document costs $200 .Many are wary of applying for five-year passports, as General Security is expected to issue updated passports with a biometric identification chip in the near future. Crowds of Lebanese citizens waited outside General Security offices for the second day Friday to renew their passports.
