BEIRUT: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three of her peers multiple times over a period of two months in north Lebanon, she said Monday.

The three boys, also minors, have detained by the army intelligence. A fourth suspect is also believed to have been involved in the incident.

The assailants were identified as Khaled Maarabani, Housam Dandashi and Najib Dandash. They are all from the Zahriyeh neighborhood in the northern city of Tripoli.

They are being questioned by the relevant authorities.

The girl, who was identified as Ibtisam M., is from Dahr al-Ain in the northern Koura district. She lives at her grandfather's house in Tripoli's Abi Samra while her father lives abroad.

A coroner has confirmed the rape.

Speaking to Al-Jadeed TV, the girl said that the three boys had been raping her over a period of two months, but not together. She refrained from going to the police as she said they had blackmailed her with photos.

"He took me to the apartment where he told me I'd be meeting his relatives, however I arrived and found no one there. He pulled out a knife and threatened to kill me if I didn't sleep with him, and he said I had to sleep with his friends too," she said, referring to one of the boys.

The girl's aunt said she was worried that political interference by some officials in Tripoli would see the release of the boys.

The mother of one of the assailants died from a stroke after learning of the incident Sunday night.

Her daughter, in comments she made to MTV Lebanon, claimed that Ibtisam was not innocent, but had gone to the apartment where the rape took place with her full consent.

Earlier reports indicated that she was gang raped in a single incident.
