Defense counselors further examined covert cellular network analyst Gary Platt Wednesday at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. The prosecution witness Platt appeared before the tribunal to testify on the covert nature of five cellphone networks which were allegedly used by those accused of carrying out the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on Feb. 14, 2005 . The analysis of reams of phone records and related data provided by Lebanon's two GSM networks has been the foundation of the prosecution's case at the tribunal, leading to the identification of the five defendants, all members of Hezbollah and being tried in absentia, and providing an outline of how the attack was orchestrated.Defense attorney Guenael Mettraux, representing the interests of Assad Hassan Sabra, began his examination Tuesday and questioned Platt for hours Wednesday.
