The resignation of the two Kataeb ministers from the Cabinet is irreversible, party chief MP Sami Gemayel Friday after meeting Prime Minister Tammam Salam to officially notify him of the resignation. Gemayel's remarks came a day after Salam described the resignation of Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi and Economy Minister Alain Hakim as a media stunt. In announcing the two ministers' resignation Tuesday, Gemayel said he no longer saw the point of participating in a "corrupt" and "failed" government.Azzi and Hakim said Thursday that they would continue to serve in a caretaker capacity.Salam has said Kataeb's absence disrupts Cabinet's political equilibrium, but stressed that it remains constitutional and in accordance with the National Pact due to the remaining presence of 10 Christian ministers.
