The Council of Maronite Bishops Wednesday voiced their fears of Lebanon plunging further into vacuum in state institutions as a result of the continuing presidential deadlock."The bishops call on political and parliamentary blocs to shoulder their national responsibilities and be free from linking the country's fate to foreign interests and resort to the requirements of the Constitution and the nation's goodness," the bishops, holding their monthly meeting under Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai at the latter's seat in Bkirki, north of Beirut, said in a statement issued after the meeting. They appealed to parliamentary blocs to sit together and agree on the election of a president in order to end the 21-month-old vacuum in the country's top Christian post.
