The newly-elected head of the Lebanese Communist Party launched a scathing attack against the country's ruling elite at a Labor Day rally Sunday, calling for a complete overhaul of the political system and the establishment of a secular state.The party had led hundreds of people, including domestic workers, for the country's largest annual May Day rally from Beirut's Cola intersection to Downtown Beirut.Gharib, the previous head of the Union Coordination Committee, was elected last week as secretary-general of the Lebanese Community Party.Upon his election he promised a "rebirth" of the party, calling on all communists outside of the party to return to its ranks.
