Islamist groups in Sidon decided to form an incomplete list for the city's upcoming municipal elections, as the Popular Nasserite Organization selected a figure to head the group's list, sources said Wednesday.Sheikh Ammar is aiming to form an Islamist list of 17 members that would compete for the 21-municipal council member.The Future Movement enjoys wide support in Sidon, which is the hometown of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the group's late founder.Bahia Hariri visited Christian religious figures Tuesday and toured poor neighborhoods to set out how Sidon is preparing for the future and providing new generations with the best opportunities.Saad is a long-standing opponent of the Future Movement and former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.Saad is also yet to announce his party's list, whose members will mainly hail from the poorer neighborhoods of the city.Saad also enjoys wide support around Taamir, which was built by his late father and former Sidon MP Maarouf Saad.
