France is preparing for an international conference to help resolve the two-year presidential crisis in Lebanon, French Ambassador Emmanuel Bonne disclosed Monday following talks with senior Lebanese officials. He spoke after meeting separately with Speaker Nabih Berri, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and Information Minister Ramzi Joreige as part of France's efforts to end the presidential vacuum. Hariri's visit to Paris followed a letter Hollande sent to Berri last week in which he said that France is exerting efforts to resolve the presidential election crisis which this month entered its third year with no end in sight.Rai was reported to have asked Hollande to intercede with Saudi Arabia and Iran, which wield great influence in Lebanon, to help in the quick election of a president. The Central News Agency, quoting Arab diplomatic sources in France, said that Hollande's visit to Lebanon, followed by Rai's consultations at the Elysee Palace, and now coupled with Hariri's new visit to Paris indicated that France is interested in Lebanon's crisis and in reactivating its constitutional institutions and boosting its security, starting with the presidential election.
