Tripoli's consensus candidate list for municipal elections may be announced by the end of the week, sources told The Daily Star, as rival candidates are finalizing their slates less then ten days ahead of the race. The list hopes to dominate the council and is fielding 24 candidates, headed by Azzam Ouwayda. However, the consensus list will face fierce competition.Rumors have circulated that Rifi's list might include members of the previous municipal council, as the consensus list will not include incumbents. If this is true, sources suspect that delegates representing those areas would run against the consensus list and join Rifi's.Sources said that all Christian parties had agreed on not sponsoring a candidate from within their ranks, and found themselves at an impasse when the FPM insisted on having four of its party members run as candidates. There are a total of 277 candidates for the district of Tripoli's three municipal councils: 138 candidates for Tripoli's 24-member municipal council, 96 for the 21-member Mina municipal council and 43 municipal candidates for the 15-member Qalamoun municipal council.
