The Free Patriotic Movement candidate Monday officially succeeded MP Michel Helou in the Parliament, winning a seat left vacant since the latter's death in June 2014 .The Interior Ministry said in a statement carried by the National News Agency that Amal Abou Zeid won roughly 6,489 more votes than Ibrahim Azar, son of former MP Samir Azar, who is backed by Speaker Nabih Berri's Amal Movement. Abou Zeid, who was also backed by the Lebanese Forces, the Kataeb Party and Hezbollah, garnered 14,653 votes, compared to the 7,759 votes for Azar.
