Abdullah al-Shami was elected as the chair of Tripoli's Bar Association Sunday in a win for the political alliance of the Lebanese Forces, Future Movement and the Free Patriotic Movement. Some 978 out of 1,216 registered lawyers gathered at the Bar Association to cast their ballots with Shami winning after receiving 646 votes in the second round of elections. FPM founder Michel Aoun and Frangieh were the two main candidates for the presidential post before Aoun was elected on Oct. 31 .Lawyers Zahra Jisr and Suheir Derbas were competing for the council membership with Jisr ultimately receiving 528 votes against 472 votes for Derbas. Ricardo Wehbi said that the lawyers are looking to do what is in the best interest of the Bar Association.
